San Diego Tent Camping at Campland on the Bay
Campland is the only place to allow tent camping in the City of San Diego. We welcome tent campers and have a variety of sites to offer. Campland on the Bay is full of amenities to enhance your camping experience. There are plenty of restrooms with hot showers, two pools, and hot tubs, a beach, a Cantina & full bar, market & coffee, marina, and watersports rentals. It’s not just camping!
Looking for beach camping in San Diego? Campland on the Bay offers tent camping along Mission Bay with sandy shoreline access just steps from your campsite. While not directly on the ocean surf, campers enjoy calm bay beaches, waterfront views, and easy access to the water — a unique experience compared to traditional inland campgrounds.
We do have a maximum stay of 14 days for tent campers in all areas of the park except for the Primitive section which has a 7-day maximum stay.
Our sites are popular for tents. We recommend the shady west side of the campground for tent camping at Campland. Our tent sites come with a picnic table and some have fire rings. Tent campers get up to two-passenger vehicle passes included with their site.

Please keep in mind the following rules for tent campers:
- Tents are permitted on asphalt and dirt sites only — thank you for helping us to preserve our grassy areas.
- Tents may not be staked on asphalt (freestanding tents only). Avoid tying lines to trees or fences.
- Our sprinkler systems come on during the night in all grassy areas.
- Pets require owner supervision at all times.
